Dr Mortimer was said to have wore gold rim glasses in the story as well as having a beard. The story said that he was a very tall, thin man, with a long nose. His gray eyes set closely together behind his glasses. His frock-coat was dingy and his trousers were frayed. Doctor Mortimer was young but his back was already bowed. He was said to have made his own cigarettes.
