At the time the Missionaries began, the number of people living in poverty was immense. Mother Teresa's movement was founded with only 12 members, most of them former teachers and student's at Saint Mary's. Under Mother Teresa’s guidance they created numerous centres serving the blind, the aged, and the disabled of Calcutta. Soon, ranks began to grow and donations poured in. The Missionaries started to expand worldwide. Soon, there were members working in 131 countries across all 7 continents.
