IQ
The Intelligence Quotient
The original IQ was developed by Alfred Binet, a French educator. An assessment tool was given to participants to determine their "Mental Age", and that was compared to the chronological age. Therefore, an IQ could be determined by taking the mental age (MA) and dividing it by their actual age (CA) and multiplying by 100.
( MA / CA ) * 100
If I am smarter than most people my age, and I am 18 years old, I might have a mental age of 27.
( 27 / 18 ) * 100
IQ = 150
The problem? What if yesterday was my birthday?
(27 / 19 ) * 100
IQ = 142
In one day, this person lost 8 points off their IQ!
