🔹Every since 1864-1988 there was always a hearing president at Gallaudet University
🔹1988 was the year it would finally change
🔹The Deaf Community slowly noticed they were not being represented or helped in the way they needed
🔹The Deaf Community began to meet to discuss the newly found issue
🔹Once Elisabeth Zinser was nominated for president the protests began
🔹Students began to lockdown school, blocked off entrances, and deflated car tires
🔹Students created their list of demands;Zinser must resign, deaf president must be selected, Spilman must resign, 51% of the board must be Deaf, and no reprisals
🔹Other communities and students began to join in on the protests
🔹Day 8 of the protests the deaf students got all their wishes
🔹This protest has forever changed the past, present, and future
🔹The deaf community is no longer seen as "unable"
🔹The Deaf people don't want to be "cured", they love their culture
🔹Deaf people are no less or unviable then hearing people
