Leni wrote poetry. She also painted, her artistic skills hated by her father. She participated in local gymnastics and swim clubs. Also a dancer, her father wanted her in a professional line, not appreciating her natural talents. Her mother had supported her.

Leni was born Helene Bertha Amalie 'Leni' Riefenstahl.

First child of Alfred and Bertha. Older sister to Heinz who later died in WWI
