Africa
The "Scramble for Africa" is referred to the prospect of exploiting African resources and nationalist rivalries between European powers. During this time European imperial powers partitioned and colonized almost the entire African continent. European countries involved in the Scramble for Africa include Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, and Spain. The carving up of Africa was like splitting a cookie cake between seven siblings, but at different times. Once child would take a slightly larger part of the cookie cake without notifying the others which will lead to heated arguments over the ownership of the cookie. The taking of the cookie cake by Belgium and Britain alarmed other countries so Otto Von Bismark called a meeting, inviting delegates of 14 other states to set ground rules for the colonization of Africa. This was called the Berlin Conference and everyone agreed about how they will split the cookie cake.
