Xenon; information & it's uses

Xenon is an noble gas meaning it is an element in the eighteenth group. Being that it is a noble gas, Xenon has a full set of valence electrons, so it can not gain or lose any. Xenon is not considered to be toxic but many of its compounds are toxic because of their strong oxidizing properties. It is used in photographic flashes, instruments for radiation detection, x-ray counters, medicines such as general anesthetic, high pressure arc lamps for motion picture projection, and high pressure arc lamps to provide ultraviolet light but when Xenon is electrically excited it emits such a bright light it is also used in strobe lights and lamps. The light emitted from lamps can be used to kill bacteria and power ruby lasers, which is a solid-state laser that uses a synthetic ruby crystal as its gain medium. Because of Xenon's high atomic mass of 131.29, ions were used as a fuel in an experimental ion engine aboard the Deep Space 1.
