Eastern Cottontail

Sylvilagus floridanus

The eastern cottontail is a very territorial animal. When chased, it runs in a zigzag pattern, running up to 18mph.The cottontail prefers an area where it can quickly get do a hiding spot but be out in the open. Forests, swamps, thickets, bushes, or open areas where shelter is close by are key habitation sites for this species. Throughout there life they usually only stay in 1-2 living spots but when weather changes they tend to moves spots until the nice weather comes back.
