How does the system work
The ability to reproduce begins in puberty (the development of sperm and egg)
The male reproductive tract consists of paired testes which produce sperm and testosterone
Spermatogenesis and testosterone production (starts at puberty ends at death) are stimulated by FSH and LH
The female reproductive tract consisted of paired ovaries which produce eggs as well as estrogen and progesterone
The monthly menstrual cycle controls the reproductive cycle
The cycle is controlled by hormones, hypothalamus, anterior pituitary glands, and ovaries
In order to reproduce the male must ejaculate semen into the females vagina
The sperm from the semen must swim through the vagina and uterus into the uterine tube where fertilization usually takes place
Only one sperm will enter the egg and fertilize it
