Background & History

The lead singer, Ben Bridwell, was born in Irmo, SC. He moved to Tucson, Arizona at the age of 16. He later moved to Seattle, Washington, and joined his first band, Carissa's Weird. The band broke up in 2004 due to financial issues, and Bridwell along with Mat Brooke created band of horses.

The band first received attention after opening several shows for local Seattle based band Iron & Wine. They signed to record label Sub Pop and released their first record, Everything All the Time in 2006. The band relocated to Mt. Pleasant, SC in 2007 and released their second studio album, Cease to Begin.
