What is slavery? Slavery refers to a condition in which individuals are owned by others, who control where they live and at what they work.

Slavery began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown,Virginia in 1619.

From there slavery spread around the south. Slavery put a major impact in the way white farms lived.
