Biography

* Democritus was born in the city of Abdera in Thrace, born 80th Olympiad ( 460-457BC)

* He wrote on Babylon and Meroe; he visited Egypt, and Diodorus Siculus states that he lived there for 5 years.

* "Otanes" one of the magi accompanying Xerxes, was said to have taught Democritus.

* After coming back to his native Land he occupied himself with natural philosophy.

* He was cheerful and always ready to see the comical side of life.

* According to Diodorus Siculus, Democritus died at the age of 90

* He was commonly known as the Laughing Philosopher
