CASE STUDY
General Briefing
Summary
In the state of California in 2013, Jahi McMath was declared brain dead (after an unsuccessful surgery), yet her heart was still beating. In all fifty states, if the brain no longer functions, the person is dead. However, the parents of Jahi McMath (who are very religious) refuse to accept that she is actually dead, especially because her heart still beats. Therefore, after many court cases, the state of New Jersey allowed her family to keep her on life support solely because they disagree with her death proclamation. Jahi's family thinks God will intervene and bring their daughter back to her active life.
