According to The State of Food Security in the World, “the vast majority of the world's hungry people live in developing countries, where 13.5 percent of the population is undernourished.”

This technology allows scientists to alter the genetic sequence of crops to make them resistant to weeds, pest and other diseases. It also allows for the reconstruction of DNA in order to make widely available foods, such as wheat and rice, more nutritional.
