Bio

His birth name as George Herman. Him and his sister were the only two out of eight children to survive childhood. His parents sent him away to St. Mary's Industrial School for boys when he was seven years old; he lived there until he was nineteen years old. Brother Matthias, at the school, help him with his baseball skills even though he was a natural. By the time he turned nineteen, a minor league recruiter (Jack Dunn) signed him into the Baltimore Orioles - Babe was excited because he got to get paid for the game he loves. On July 10, 1914, Babe was sold to the Boston Red Sox due to lack of money. October 1914 he married Helen Woodford. While with the Red Sox, Babe made a pitching record that lasted for 43 years. He was traded to the New York Yankees in 1920 for twice what any baseball player was worth. In 1921 he broke his own record with 59 home run! When the built a new Yankee Stadium in 1923, they called it "The House that Ruth Built". 1935 Babe decides to switch to the Boston Braves. On May 25, 1935 he hit 714th career home run, and five days later he played his last game of Major League Baseball.  Babe's record stood until Hank Aaron broke it in 1974. He died 1948.
