Mosaics
The mosaics are tiny pieces of colored glass that helped make images and art that is set plaster. Mosaics were more central to Byzantine culture than to Western Europe. Byzantine church interiors were usually covered with golden mosaics. Mosaic art flourished in the Byzantine Empire .The majority of Byzantine mosaics were destroyed without trace during wars and conquests, but their are some that survived.
Significance to classical world:
The Mosaics were used for decoration. Mosaics captured the finest gradations of skin tones and textures of clothing. It was a skill that painters found difficult to master.
