~Roberto Clemente wore #21 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and on April 6, 1971, his number was retired forever by the team.

~He died in a plane crash on December 31, 1972, on his way to bring needed supplies to survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua.

~ In 1973, he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
