SUMMARY

She thought she was treated unfairly as the oldest of her siblings, so Claudia decided run away from home with her little brother, Jaime, to New York to stay at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They rode a train to New York City with one of their parents' spare train tickets. When they get to the museum, they become very interested in Angel, a sculpture, that the museum has specialists come in and try to figure out who sculpt it. One night at the museum, the guards were moving the statue, Claudia and Jaime saw that the sculptures place had an "M" that would symbolize Michelangelo, but it could also mean other artists. The runaways meet with Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler to discuss who the artist was. She tells them how their parents were feeling and would tell them if they told them their story. They did, and she showed them the real draft of the sculpture signed with Michelangelo's name, which sealed that he was the mystery artist.
