The Mughal empire was created because Babur founded the empire, which expanded to embrace almost all the indian subcontinent. Babur's grandson Akbar (1556-1605) was a brilliant and charismatic ruler and his military campaigns consolidated Mughal power. He pursued a policy of religious toleration to reduce tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities in India. The ruler between (1659-1707) wa Aurangzeb and he wages a campaign to push Mughal authority into southern India, and eventually the Mughals ruled almost the entire subcontinent. He also greatly expanded the borders and faced rebellions.
