*John Paul jones finished school at age 12. He went on to become an apprentice on a ship in the navy.

*He went to America with his brother William and joined the British navy. He killed a man on his ship and was wanted in England for murder. He fled to America and joined the continental navy at the start of the revolution. John added Jones to his name to prevent being caught.

* He captured many ships including the large British ship Serapis.

*During a battle between the British navy and the continental navy, a British captain asked if he wanted to surrender. He stated, "I Have not yet begun to fight" He later won the battle and captured the British captain.
