Contraindications:

◦ Hypersensitivity

◦ Missed abortion

◦ Thromboembolic disease

◦ Cerebrovascular disease

◦ Severe liver disease

◦ Breast or genital cancer

◦ Porphyria (“vampire disease”)

Main indication: Prevention of pregnancy

Length of action: Long term; both the peak and duration are weeks to months

Pregnancy prevention:

Women: 150mg (Depo-Provera) I.M. once every 3 months. Or, 104mg Depo-subQ Provera subcutaneously every 3 months
