Guadalcanal battle lasted about 6 months. It consisted of a number of major battles that were on land, sea, and in the air. American forces then land on Solomon Islands, Tulagi, and Florida. By August 9th, they had cleared Florida and Tulagi. The fight to be able to control the Guadalcanal and seas around it continued for many months. Both sides were loosing troops, aircraft, and ships. Finally in February, the Japanese withdrew and surrendered the island.
