Education for women
Education for women
Until the 1820s, American girls had few educational options open to them. Many women were upset by this and because of this, many reformers opened public schools open to women in the mid 1800s. One example of a school opened was the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. African American women faced even tougher challenges to get an education. One school was opened to them by a white Quaker Prudence Crandall. But in 1834, Crandall was forced to close the school and leave the town.
