Moses, the raven, represents the Russian Orthodox Church. The church was used to make the animals work harder by telling them they'd have a good afterlife. This happens when Moses returns to the farm and inspires them with Sugarcandy Mountain.

Boxer represents the working class of Russia. Both work hard and respect the government/dictator since they're both uneducated.

Old major represents Karl Marx. Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto, the basis of communism. Just like Old major creating the idea of animalism. Also, in both situations, the whole reason the revolution was created is forgotten.
