A Trip to England

Addams traveled to England in 1883 to 1885 and again in 1887-1888. Her travel companion, Ellen Starr, went with her.

Back to America

While in England, Addams visited Toynbee Hall, which was a settlement house. Immigration was a problem all over the world, but especially in America.

With this knowledge, Jane Addams opened up her own settlement house-- Hull House.
