Latin America: Argentina
The downtrodden, poor Argentines were the core supporters of Peron's government.
Peron took control of Argentina after World War 2, and established a government controlled by the army. After his popular government was removed from power, brutal military dictators took control for the next three decades. The dictators formed death squads that would kill those who resisted or rebelled against the government. Between 6,000 and 23,000 people went missing. In other areas of Latin America, people established socialist governments, communist governments, and elitist governments, all of which struggled to satisfy the elite and the poor.
