- Alessandro was born in Como, a town in Italy, on February 18, 1745.
- He died on the fifth of March in 1827, in Camnago, which is now, in his honor, named Camnago Volta.
- Volta's fields of study were physics and chemistry.
- He married Teresa Peregrini in 1794. Alessandro and Teresa raised three sons. Zanino, Flaminio, and Luigi. His parents were named Filippo Volta and Donna Maddalena.
- Alessandro studied at public schools in Como in his younger ages. He became a professor of physics in at the Royal School, also located in Como, in 1774. In 1779, he went to the University of Pavia, and became a professor of physics there.
- The scientist was known for his invention of the electrical battery. He was also the first person to isolate methane.
