Other Facts

-Thought of as an ocean biome, though they are found in the ocean, they are separate things. A coral reef biome is found in a shallow area of clear water within the ocean.

-Those found in the Western bodies of water have about 85% more diversity than those found in the Caribbean

-Warm water temperatures are needed for a coral reef biome to exist, that explains why it has to be shallow, the deeper the water, the harder for he sun to shine through and give energy to the plants

-When they die there is a hard structure that is made out of limestone

-Some characteristics depend on whether it's a hard or soft reef
