-Tension grew between the countries because of a pattern of "action and reaction."

-Either side did not have a concrete plan for their foreign policy, the policies that were put in place were just a response to an opposing policy.

-The U.S. and The USSR focused too much on what other country was doing and overestimated their power rather than sticking to their own political plan.

-Severe misunderstanding of the opposing school of thought on both sides.

-The economic policies directly conflict, leaving no room for compromise
