what is annulment ?
An annulment is the act of declaring a marriage to no longer have legal existence. There are two kinds of annulment: civil and religious.
A civil annulment is done through the court. The reasons for annulment must be factual (lack of consent, substance abuse, bigamy, etc) not religious
CIVIL
RELIGIOUS
A religious annulment is done through the church. The reasons for annulment can include (but are not limited to) a lack of emotional stability, capacity to establish a loving marital community, etc.
While a marriage may be valid in the civil dimension, it may not be valid in the religious dimension.
