The Life of St. Dominic Savio
St. Dominic Savio was born in 1842 in Chieri, Italy and lived to be only 14 years old. He displayed "heroic virtue" in his everyday life which was a critical factor as to why he was inducted into sainthood. Even from a young age, St. Dominic Savio was found praying. He had such strong faith that his parish priest agreed to allow him to receive his first communion at the age of 7, instead of 12. For the rest of his life, St. Dominic Savio studied to be a priest but then died a young death from pleurisy, which is a lung disease. During his life time, St. Dominic Savio was taught by St. John Bosco, who had very high regard for him. When St. Dominic Savio died, St. John Bosco wrote a biography on him, describing his life and his faith. He was canonized on July 12, 1954 by Pope Pius XII, making him one of the youngest saints to be inducted into sainthood without being a martyr.
