Introduction
Throughout the play, "The Crucible," many of Arthur Miller's characters are focused on either their own individual interests, or the interests of their society. Some of these characters choose to progress from one to another and undergo character development. The character this is seen most in is John Proctor. John proctor undergoes a transformation of selfishness to selflessness as the story progresses, and learns that he would rather have his community benefit from his sacrifices than to solely serve himself.
