Prose- writing or speaking in the normal or ordinary form; it is arranged in sentences and paragraphs
Poetry- a piece of literature written in meter or verse
Literal- the standard meaning of a word
Figurative- departure from a standard meaning of a word to achieve special meaning or effect
Hyperbole- great exaggeration used to emphasize strong feeling
Simile- a comparison of one thing to another using like or as
Metaphor- a figure of speech which a person, idea, or object it imaginatively transformed.
Personification- granting human attributes to things that are not human
Rhythm- patterns of stressed or unstressed sounds on a line of poetry
Alliteration- the repititi on of constant sounds
Onoponopeia- a word whose sound imitates the actual sound to wich it refers
Imagery- use of concrete details that appeal to five senses
Cacaphony- a succession of harsh, jolting sounds
Euphony- a succession of smooth, harmonious sounds
Assonance- the repitition of vowel sounds followed by unlike constant sounds
Rhyme- the repitition of word ending sounds
Rhyme sceme- the pattern of rhymes in stanza or poem
Internal rhyme- occurs within a line
End rhyme- comes at end of line
Repitition- occur over and over again
Verse-one line of poetry
Stanza-a grouping of thi lines in a peopm
Refrain-a word, phrase' line or groups of lines repeated regularly in a poem, usually at the end of each stanza
