The typical LDD case is divided into a framework, which outlines the conditions for discussing the resolution and contentions. Each resolution is defended by one person, the affirmative and the negative. In the debate, two kinds of speeches are given by each defendant. The first is constructive, which prepares the speech arguing for or against the resolution, and the second is the rebuttal speech, which is primarily to invalidate the others argument and gain the judges vote.
