History:
In around 1500, a Portuguese explorer by the name of Pedro Cabral discovered Brazil. The Portuguese reported that around seven million native Indians lived in Brazil at that time. The independence of Brazil began in 1807 when Napoleon I invaded Portugal. With the help of the British, the royal family of Portugal fled to Brazil. The Portuguese ruled Brazil there for many years until April 22, 1821, when prince Dom Pedro claimed the throne. He supported the idea of an independent Brazil. After sharing his ideas to the people, he gained popularity fast. Brazil gained its independence on September 7, 1822. Prince Dom Pedro of Portugal signed a treaty with Brazil in late 1825.
