(b. 1950)
A graduate of Exeter University, London, with a bachelor’s degree in art, Wayne Warren has established himself as a contemporary artist in two- and three- dimensional pieces. His work highlights the consumer’s fixation with materialism and challenges the market valuation of physical goods.
Most commended for his work with gold, Warren has been called a “twenty-first century Midas… with diametrically opposite intentions”—taking patently uncelebrated items and converting them into treasure. Warren synthesizes and transforms common objects – small toys, spoons, clothes – into art to create a representation of consumer fixation: gold, fashion, and the like. This juxtaposition presents the dangerous and implicit relationship between the accumulation of
wealth and trash.
Warren’s works are featured in many important collections across the globe, including the collections of: Birmingham University; Lloyds Bank, England; Montclair Kimberley Academy, NJ, USA ; Cambridge University and numerous private collections in Australia, Asia, and Europe. His most recent exhibitions have spanned Asia, Europe, and the United States. Of note, Warren was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale in 2015.
