I believe they got stuck in the mud.

I think the lakes and rivers were shrinking and there was barley water.The coelophysis started getting hungry.I guess one of the coelophysis saw a puddle with a fish that was dying.While it was trying to get the fish it got stuck and died because it was water mixed with mud.
