History
Nord Pas de Calais was originally part of Balgae and was then overthrown by the Romans.
In the Middle Ages, Calais was captured for 100 years after is became French in 1347 after a siege.
In the 21st century, the majority of Northern France was ruled by the House of Burgundy. Flanders, a Belgian region, was brought under Austrian Hapsburg control before becoming part of the Kingdom of Spain.
