-Moctezuma II believed Cortez was a god, resembled god they believed would return
-Moctezuma sent gifts to Cortez, gold, searching for gold Cortez marched to Tenochtitlan greated as god but took Moctezuma as prisoner
-Moctezuma killed in battle between Indian and Spanish forces
