Religions and Capital Punishment

- One of the ten commandments is "Thou shalt not kill," using capital punishment would mean going against this
- Christianity and Islam are religions that believe in forgiveness and compassion
- Hinduism is also another religion that doesn't believe in punishing people with death, as they are against violence, revenge and killing
- "An eye for an eye ends up making the whole world blind" - Gandhi
- Buddhism is a religion that is quite strongly against capital punishment. The First Precept tells them that they should refrain themselves from injuring/killing any living creature
- "An action, even if it brings benefit to oneself, cannot be considered a good action if it causes physical and mental pain to another being" - The Buddha
- Even though the majority of religions don't believe in using capital punishment, it is still used worldwide despite the fact that in some cases it is against the religion of the government/leader of that country to do so
