-Andrew Carnegie
In 1848, Andrew Carnegie left Scotland and went to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He worked as a telegraph messenger, then a personal telegrapher. Eventually he became Superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1856 he began investing, and in 1863 he had made $40,000 from investing. In 1899, he founded the company that became Carnegie Steel Co., Ltd. Under his control, and management, 7 guards and 3 workers died. When the union was crushed, Carnegie cut wages and made loner work days. He only gave one day off of work, the 4th of July. In 1901, Carnegie sold Carnegie Steel to J.P. Morgan. He made $250 from his sale. He retired as the wealthiest man in the world. He supported education, world peace, libraries, and research.
