Pennsylvania got its name when King Charles gave it to William Penn in honor of his father, Admiral William Penn. It means "Penn's Woodland".
Pennsylvania is called the "Keystone State". A keystone is a stone in the middle of an arch that holds the arch together. Pennsylvania was referred to as the "keystone in the federal union" at a Jefferson rally in 1802. Pennsylvania held the country together, like its nickname tells.
