About the Author
Born: April 24th, 1825 in Edinburgh
Died: February 8th, 1894
Ballantyne was a Scottish writer who mostly focused on juvenile fiction. He was also a talented artist who did many watercolor works. At the age of sixteen he moved to Canada, and became an experienced writer by writing home to his mother. In 1847 he returned home to find that his father was dead, which was the inspiration for his first book, Hudson Bay, which was published a year later. This caused him to slowly transition into a full time writing career in which he wrote mainly adventure stories for younger audiences.
