What do I think?

® Company, Inc. CONFIDENTIAL - Do Not Distribute

For starters, I had to do multiple searches in order to find negative reviews of this book. Most of the negative reviews, however, were only against the last 4 pages of the book, not the entire book. I think that alone, speaks for itself. I was brought back to our debate whether or not books should be censored because some of the students in our class said that certain books should only be read with an adult while some said that the children should be able to read what they want on their own. I began by thinking that this would be a great book to read with children in order to start a discussion about these topics. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I would be comfortable with a child reading this book independently. I thought this book was insightful and funny. I think most of the negative reviews are from people who feel uncomfortable leaving their child read this book on their own. They are worried it will “scar them for life”. Like we said in our forum, these are topics that the children are probably experiencing, directly or indirectly. It is best they learn about them before experiencing them. I think if someone does not feel comfortable with their child reading this book alone, they should read it with them and use it as a discussion point. I did not see any reason for this book to be challenged or negatively reviewed other than the fact that people are uncomfortable with some of the subjects our children are exposed to in their daily lives.
