It shows how there are two sides to every story and that no matter what every one sees things differently. We learn that most white people refused to think of African Americans as equal. But, some of them struggled internally to believe what was right because of all the negative influences around them. The shocking and vivid details of African Americans, opens the eyes of how harsh their conditions were.
