General Tips for all classrooms/ELL STUDENTS

Write in print.

Use visual aids and graphic organizers (Chinese students: pictorial vs. alpha).

Give context for vocabulary.

Buddy system (Ms. Hotard example).

Spend time developing one-on-one rapport.

Summarize reading material.

Give students time to prepare oral answers in advance, if possible.

Don't make exceptions to policies - modifications and accommodations are okay, but don't grade easier than mainstream.
