The Story of The Devil and Tom Walker

Tom Walker and his wife have an odd relationship. They are always fighting with one another. One day while Tom is wandering in the woods, he encounters a black man, who calls himself "the Black Woodsman." This man, who is actually the Devil, offers Tom buried treasure and an abundance of riches, just as long as he gives the devil his soul. Tom declines, in order to spite his wife. She then goes out to find the Black Woodsman to take his deal, but only dies in the process. Tom, worried about his wife's disappearance goes off into the woods to find her, but only finds her heart and her liver. Tom sees the Devil once again and agrees to his offer. Tom becomes a notorious loan giver. But, Tom begins to regret his decision and turns to Christianity in order to repent for his sin. One day, Tom had a slip of the tongue and said, "'Now, the devil take me if I have made a farthing!'" exclaimed Tom." Thus, the Devil came and took him, and no one has saw Tom since.
