Cities with bans on Styrofoam
- In January of 2015 the mayor of New York City, bill de Blaiso, issued a Ban on Styrofoam that would apply to any Restaurant, Store, or Manufacturer. They would not be allowed to possess or sell styrofoam Products. This ban was taken into affect on July 1st. The ban was overturned recently though because it hurt local businesses who had to pay more for non-styrofoam food containers.
- the City of Portland Maine was the First city in Maine to Ban Styrofoam. The City also started charging $0.05 per plastic shopping bag
- back in 2007, the City of San Franciso banned all food vendors from using Styrofoam
- on November 19, 2012, Amherst Massachuseets Banned all Styrofoam products
- Minneapolis, Minnesota Banned Styrofoam Food Containers for Earth Day this Year
- the City of Seattle requires that all food-Service Establishments find recyclable containers, this started in 2010 and their ban on styrofoam started in 2009
