In 1923 she got engaged to Sam chapman. she soon realized this was not the man for her. He was not fond of her flying interest and after lots of arguments they never got married.

In 1928, as a passenger, she was the first woman to fly the Atlantic. Also, that same year, she was the first woman to make a solo round-trip transcontinental flight

In 1926 she became a social worker which she really enjoyed
