The Hobbit

-Narrator keeps light hearted tone

-Example: "You would have laughed (from a safe distance), if you had seen the dwarves sitting up in the trees with their beards dangling down, like old gentlemen gone cracked and playing at being boys." (Page 93).

-Dark when danger arrises

-Example: "The sound came hissing louder and sharper, and as he looked towards it, to his alarm Bilbo now saw two small points of light peering at him. Ass suspicion grew in Gollum's mind, the light of his eyes burned with a pale flame." (Page 78).

The movie gets dark in spots, also.
